The story of a lost Heart – a short story

There was once Father Heart who created Baby Heart. Father Heart loved Baby Heart so much, and he wanted Baby Heart to grow and learn and be strong and wise.

So Father Heart brought Baby Heart to the sea.

It was vast, and blue and sparkling from the sun.

The sea was both mesmerizing and a little scary to the eyes of young Baby Heart.

The time has come for you to travel to the sea, Father Heart said, you and yourself alone. Baby Heart looked at the sea one more time, this time struck with fear.

It’s impossible, Baby Heart said. I cannot go on my own.

Yes, you can, Father Heart replied.

How do You know? Baby Heart said, tears started to form in his eyes. He really didn’t want to go.

Father Heart looked at Baby Heart, with love melting from his eyes, My dear one, I created you, I know who you are, I know what you are capable of, even when you do not believe in it yourself.

But I don’t want to go, Baby Heart cried. What if I’m lost? What if the waves hit me?

Father Heart smiled.

He took out a sack. In here, Father Heart informed, you will find everything that you need. This will help you throughout your journey.

Baby Heart cried again. I don’t want to go, Baby Heart said, tears trickling down his eyes.

You must, Father Heart said, firm. He wanted Baby Heart to come back a changed and better man.

What if I fall and I can’t find my way back? What if I can’t find You back?

Father Heart smiled knowingly.

He touched the center of Baby Heart’s chest where his heart would be and said, I’m here, I’m always here. Remember me, find me, and you will always find your way back Home.

So Father Heart put Baby Heart, who was crying and holding on to Father Heart, into the tiny boat, along with the sack full of the magical items Father Heart said will help him in his journey.

I love you, Father Heart said. Don’t forget me, and come back Home.

I will always miss you, Father Heart said for the last time.

Baby Heart cried a final heartbreaking cry, before the waves pushed him further and further away to the sea until Father Heart and the shore vanished from his sight – and was left with nothing but the rolling waves, the clear, blue sky and the magical sack. He was now well and truly lost.

And so Baby Heart’s journey back Home began.
